Charlotte F.C. to host memorial for Anton Walkes

Charlotte FC will honor its soccer player Anton Walkes on Tuesday with a celebration of life memorial service at the Bank of America Stadium.

The 25-year-old defender and midfielder died following a boat accident in Miami on Thursday.

“He was a tremendous son, father, partner and teammate whose joyous approach to life touched everyone he met,” said team owner David Tepper in a statement. “Anton made those around him better people in all areas of life and represented Charlotte F.C. to the highest standard both on and off the pitch.”

The memorial begins at 3 p.m., but supporters can enter the stadium at 2 p.m.

Fans are asked to wear black Charlotte F.C. gear and Newly Minted kits.

The London, England native began his career at 16 years old with Tottenham Hotspur, before going on to play for Portsmouth and Atlanta United FC
