CIAA Journal – Q City Metro

The CIAA tournament is back, only this time it’s in Baltimore.

Our reporter Jalon Hill took to the streets to connect with some of this year’s attendees. Here’s what they had to share about the event. Stay tuned for more to come.

20 Years and Counting

It was a chilly afternoon in Baltimore when Faye Strong and Deborah Robinson were on their way to CIAA Fanfest. The temperature differed from their home in Virginia Beach, but that did not stop them from enjoying the city and catching up with old classmates.

This isn’t their first rodeo either. The 1980 Virginia State University graduates have participated in CIAA week for over 20 years.

“We used to go to the day parties and jazz club in Charlotte so we plan to do that here,” Strong said.

First time for everything

That’s the case with Xavier Sykes who is attending the CIAA Week activities for the first time.

As a Baltimore native, Skyes thought this would be the perfect chance to try something new. The Bowie State University Graduate has already attended every game and has plans to attend the Battle of the Bands and Step Show.

Despite being a first-timer, Skyes is already hooked on CIAA week. He could only smile when asked if he would return next year.

“Probably until the day I die, I’ll come back again,” he said.
