CMPD officer shot during foot chase in southeast Charlotte.


A police officer was shot during a foot chase Monday in southeast Charlotte.

According to a statement by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded to a Larceny From Vehicle in progress call in the 6100 block of Winged Elm Court. The caller informed that the suspect had pointed a firearm at a nearby citizen. 

When officers made contact with the suspect, a foot chase ensued. The suspect fired at the pursuing officers, striking one of them. 

Officers fired back but suspect was not struck with gunfire and taken into custody.

The injured officer was transported to an hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

At this time the CMPD is not looking for any additional suspects.
