CMS at-large member Jennifer De La Jara will not seek reelection

Charlotte-Mecklenburg School at-large board member Jennifer De La Jara will not seek reelection, she announced during Tuesday’s board meeting.

De La Jara was elected as an at-large member of the Board of Education in 2019, one of the longest-tenured board members.

She, along with two other at-large board members, were up for re-election this year.

De La Jara said her family is at the top of multiple reasons why she has decided not to run for re-election.

She will speak more about her decision in a Zoom meeting Wednesday at 5 p.m.

She said she plans to endorse a “strong Latina candidate” this upcoming election but shared no other details on who that would be.

Prior to CMS, De La Jara worked in education, public transit and the nonprofit sector. She has worked as an instructor and program manager in the English as a Second Language program and served as grants program coordinator for Central Piedmont Community College.

De La Jara holds a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal and organizational communications studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
