Here are 20 ways to spend your Juneteenth Weekend – Livin’ Charlotte

Good morning, QCity, and happy Friday eve!

A while back, we asked you to help us settle a staff debate: Can a person have more than one best friend?

Well, the votes are in, and 58% of you sided with Kylie and me — yes, you can have more than one bestie.

Thanks for helping us prove Zeke wrong!

As we do every Thursday, we have a list of entertainment picks to fill your weekend, including the Durag Fest. (More on that below.)

And don’t forget about Juneteenth, which we officially celebrate with a Monday holiday. Here’s a list of 10 Juneteenth events.

You can find these and other events on our Livin’ Charlotte site.

Enjoy your day.

This Weekend: Durag Fest

Durag Fest founder Dammit Wesley wants to help Black people be their most authentic selves at one of the year’s hottest events.

Durag Fest was launched in 2018 as a Juneteenth celebration.

“The concept was supposed to be a Juneteenth art exhibition, and it ballooned into this whole festival,” Wesley told QCity Metro.

The crowds at Durag Fest have grown year by year — from about 1,200 attendees that first year to as many as 10,000 for the most recent event.

General admission is free. Guests can also purchase $18 tickets for General Admissions+ or $30 tickets for V.I.P access. Check out the website to see what each ticket includes.

You catch the event on June 18 at Camp North End.
