Man arrested after two hour-long high speed chase through Charlotte


A high-speed chase that lasted roughly two hours throughout Charlotte ended in a violent crash on Wednesday afternoon in south Charlotte.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, they received a breaking and entering call after the suspect allegedly stole a Jeep.

When police found the suspect, a pursuit began and the suspect stole three more vehicles during the chase that lasted around two hours. The suspect carjacked one vehicle after a crash near the Ballantyne Hotel.

During the chase, the suspect, who has yet to be identified by police, drove recklessly across Mecklenburg County and eventually entered South Carolina at one point

The chase ended after a head-on collision at the intersection between East Boulevard and South Boulevard in south Charlotte. The suspect was taken into police custody but sent to the hospital with non-life threatnening injuries, CMPD said.

The driver will be charged with multiple offenses, including residential burglary, hit-and-run and numerous counts of vehicle theft, according to Chief Johnny Jennings.

A woman involved in a vehicle theft will also face charges, the chief said.

CMPD said that another person was injured during the chase after a collision.
