Quote of the Day – Q City Metro

“What you saw those police officers do, that was a matter of the heart. I don’t think we can policy, advocate, or legislate that out of somebody. So there’s a different conversation, maybe, that means to happen… I’m asking you as a community, how do we shift to deal with the matters of the heart?”

That was Robyn Hamilton, interim president and CEO of Urban League of the Central Carolinas, speaking Sunday evening at a vigil held in memory of Tyre Nichols, the Memphis man who died following a beating by five Black police officers.

The Urban League’s vigil was one of several held in Charlotte over the weekend.

The Memphis officers involved in the deadly encounter were all charged with murder.

Hamilton said that as the mother of a Black son, she is terrified to let him out of her sight and can only imagine what the Nichols family is feeling.
