Six and 12-year-old involved in armed robbery in Steele Creek

An armed robbery involving two juveniles, ages 6 and 12, is under investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

According to a statement by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, at approximately 8 a.m., officers responded to an armed robbery call for service in the 2100 block of Diamond Creek Circle.

When officers got there, they met a female victim who told officers that she allowed the two juveniles to borrow her phone to call their mom.

When she handed the phone to them, both subjects took off running, police said. The victim chased after the juveniles when the 12-year-old pulled a gun and pointed it at the victim.

Police said officers were familiar with the 12-year-old based on the description from the victim and previous incidents. Officers quickly located the suspects at a nearby apartment complex and spoke with the juveniles’ mother

The mother was cooperative and allowed officers into her home to search for the handgun believed to be used in the robbery. Officers located the weapon which they realized was a BB gun, police said.

The 12-year-old admitted to officers that he stole the victim’s phone and pulled a gun on her. The 12-year-old is being charged with armed robbery and damage to property. The 6-year-old is not facing charges at this time, police said.

The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/
