When N.C. Black Votes Matter reached out to Livingstone College to join a water collection drive for Jackson State University, the answer was an immediate “yes” from Livingstone President Jimmy R. Jenkins.

Jackson, Mississippi, has been in a water crisis for several weeks.

To supply residents with clean water, N.C. Black Votes Matter stopped by four HBCUs to collect cases of water.

So far, students and administration at Livingstone have collected 404 cases of bottled water.

“These are our neighbors according to our biblical teaching, and they need our action,” Jenkins said.

The water donation aligns with Livingstone’s “holistic model,” which includes social awareness and social responsibility, said Kimberly Harrington, a school spokeswoman.
